Etalon Rouge 2019

Etalon Rouge 2019

Once owned by Gérard Depardieu and guided for years by Denis Dubourdieu, “the Pope of White Wines,” Étalon Rouge today is a biodynamically farmed micro-estate of just 1.46 hectares overlooking the Gironde Estuary. Its south-facing, limestone-rich slopes benefit from a unique microclimate, producing Cabernet Sauvignon of exceptional concentration and finesse.

The vineyard’s 40–45-year-old vines yield just 4,000–5,000 bottles per year. Grapes are harvested by hand, sorted for absolute quality, and vinified using the rare “integral method” — whole berries fermented in rotating French oak barrels for six weeks, a labor-intensive practice used by only a handful of domaines in France. This slow, gentle process, followed by lunar-phase bottling and oak aging, creates a wine of remarkable depth and balance.

Étalon Rouge is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon of density and refinement, offering aromatic richness that evolves beautifully with age. Expect dark fruit, spice, and minerality carried by firm but elegant tannins. With its low yields, artisanal methods, and strict biodynamic approach, this is a singular Bordeaux for collectors and fine dining programs alike.
